La dependencia emocional es una extrema necesidad de recibir amor y afecto de tal forma que la persona afectada solo vive para y por esa otra persona.
Las personas dependientes suelen tener una baja autoestima, una disposición de sumisión y que suele idealizar a su pareja de una forma enfermiza para vencer la "soledad".
El receptor de este afecto enfermizo por el contrario suele ser dominante, egocéntrico y con una afectividad nula o escasa, de tal forma que crean una relación tóxica y simbiótica con la persona sumisa. Se junta en "pan con las ganas de comer" que diríamos castizamente.
Normalmente las personas dependientes tienen una biografía y antecedentes de grandes carencias afectivas, terror al rechazo y la desaprobación, incluso abandono por lo que suelen fijarse, de una forma distorsionada en características que tiene la otra persona dominante como la seguridad, autonomía, etc.
Síntomas de dependencia emocional
- No sabe estar solo/a, tiene la fuerte necesidad de estar en pareja.

Amplio historial de relaciones de pareja, normalmente tormentosas.
- Necesidad de aprobación extrema.

Baja autoestima.
-
No es asertiva con esa pareja.

Su relación es excluyente del entorno: amigos, familia, etc.

Desea estar en contacto permanente con la pareja, ya sea físicamente, por móvil, Internet, etc.
- Cuándo pierde una relación entra en una profunda crisis que f puede finalizar con la vuelta del "dominante" hasta la humillación grave o la búsqueda compulsiva de otro sujeto similar.
